Our founder, Edward T. Hall, spent his entire
adult life educating young men. The headmaster of two prominent eastern
boarding schools, Ned saw
every type of young man come through his doors.
Upon his return from the Maru-a-Pula School in Gaborone, Botswana, he
felt there was a need for a school for young men who were having difficulties
in the academic mainstream. During his years as an educator, Ned saw far
too many young men who had potential fall by the wayside because they
lacked both the self-esteem and self-motivation to be successful in mainstream
schools.
It was with that understanding that The Deck House School was conceived in 1979. Since
that time we have welcomed more than 200 young men from around the world.
Some have been outstanding-ly successful and have gone on to such colleges
as the Reed, University of Pennsylvania, Hamilton, Curry, Fort Lewis, Champlain, Burlington College, Drew, Full Sail, California College of the Arts, Western State College of Colorado, University of North Carolina and the University of Maine. Others have gone from our
10th and 11th grades to independent secondary schools.
